Frequently asked questions
Many people assume therapy is only for times of crisis or when something is wrong. In reality, therapy can be valuable at any stage of life.
Some people seek therapy while navigating stress, grief, relationship challenges, or major life transitions. Others come because they want greater clarity, stronger relationships, improved balance, increased confidence, or simply dedicated time to focus on themselves and their overall well-being.
Just as people invest in their physical health, therapy can be an investment in emotional wellness, personal growth, and living more intentionally. You do not need to be struggling to benefit from therapy. Many clients seek support because they want to better understand themselves, strengthen areas of their lives, and continue becoming the person they want to be.
At Beachside Mental Health Counseling, we believe therapy should be personalized, collaborative, and responsive to the individual sitting in front of us. While our clinicians draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques, we share a common commitment to whole-person wellness, meaningful relationships, personal growth, and helping clients build on their existing strengths.
Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, we work collaboratively with each client to develop an approach that aligns with their goals, values, experiences, and preferences. Our focus is on creating a supportive environment where clients can gain insight, develop practical tools, navigate challenges, and move toward greater well-being.
Our clinicians work with individuals navigating a wide range of personal, relational, professional, and emotional challenges. While some clients seek therapy to address specific symptoms or mental health concerns, many come to therapy as part of a broader commitment to personal growth, wellness, self-understanding, and living more intentionally.
Common areas of focus include:
• Stress, overwhelm, and difficulty maintaining balance in daily life
• Anxiety, depression, mood concerns, and emotional distress
• Trauma, adverse life experiences, and the lasting impact of difficult events
• Grief, loss, and life after significant change
• Burnout, compassion fatigue, moral injury, and occupational stress
• Relationship challenges, communication concerns, and family dynamics
• Self-esteem, confidence, identity development, and self-worth
• Life transitions involving career, relationships, parenthood, caregiving, retirement, or changing life roles
• Women's issues and the unique demands of balancing personal, family, and professional responsibilities
• Caregiver stress and supporting others while maintaining your own well-being
• Healthcare worker, first responder, educator, and helping professional wellness
• Leadership, professional development, and navigating high-responsibility roles
• Adjustment to illness, injury, disability, or other significant life circumstances
• Personal growth, self-discovery, and creating a life that feels more aligned with your values and goals
At Beachside, we recognize that people are far more than a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. Many of our clients are capable, accomplished individuals who are functioning well in many areas of life but want greater clarity, stronger relationships, improved well-being, or support navigating a challenging season. Therapy is not only for moments of crisis. It can also be a powerful tool for growth, reflection, resilience, and becoming the person you want to be.
No two clients arrive with the same experiences, strengths, goals, or challenges. We take time to understand your unique circumstances, personal history, values, relationships, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
Together, we develop goals that feel meaningful and relevant to your life. As therapy progresses, we continue to adapt the process based on your needs, feedback, and growth. We view therapy as a collaborative partnership rather than a predetermined path.
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic process. Information shared during therapy is generally kept private and protected.
There are, however, specific situations required by law and professional standards in which confidentiality may be limited, such as concerns related to immediate safety, suspected abuse or neglect, or certain court orders. These exceptions will be reviewed during the informed consent process, and we encourage clients to ask any questions they may have
At Beachside Mental Health Counseling, we believe that quality therapy is built on strong relationships, ongoing professional development, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Our practice includes both independently licensed clinicians and therapists who are working toward licensure under professional supervision. Every clinician on our team is carefully selected for their training, professionalism, clinical skills, and dedication to helping clients achieve their goals and enhance their overall well-being.
Therapists pursuing licensure often bring fresh perspectives, current clinical training, and a strong passion for the profession. Because they have recently completed graduate education and intensive clinical training, they are frequently engaged with emerging research, contemporary therapeutic approaches, and evolving best practices within the field.
Many clients view this model as receiving the best of both worlds: a therapist who is actively engaged in the latest clinical training and professional development, supported by the experience, perspective, and consultation of seasoned clinicians. Rather than working in isolation, therapists at Beachside practice within a culture of collaboration, learning, and mentorship, allowing clients to benefit from a depth of knowledge that extends beyond any one individual.
As a practice founded by a counselor educator and clinical supervisor, Beachside is committed to both providing exceptional services and helping develop the next generation of skilled and compassionate mental health professionals. If you have questions about a clinician's background, credentials, or areas of expertise, we are happy to help you find the therapist who is the best fit for your needs and goals.
Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, relevant life experiences, current strengths, and any concerns you would like to address.
This initial session is not about having all the answers. Rather, it is a conversation designed to help us understand your unique experiences and determine how we can best support you moving forward. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the therapeutic process.
Beachside Mental Health Counseling offers secure telehealth services throughout New York State. Limited in-person appointments may also be available depending on clinician availability and location.
Virtual therapy provides flexibility and convenience while maintaining the same personalized and professional experience as in-person sessions. We are happy to discuss which option may be the best fit for your needs.
Fees vary depending on the clinician and service being provided. We offer both private-pay and insurance-based services (via Headway).
We accept major credit cards and other secure electronic payment methods. If you plan to use insurance, our team can help verify benefits and answer questions regarding coverage. For clients utilizing out-of-network benefits, we can provide documentation that may assist with reimbursement, when applicable.
Please contact us for current fee information and insurance participation details.
The length of therapy varies from person to person and depends on your goals, needs, and preferences. Some clients seek support for a specific issue and attend for a relatively short period of time, while others choose to engage in longer-term work focused on personal growth, relationship patterns, or ongoing life challenges.
Throughout the process, we regularly review progress and collaborate with clients to determine what feels most beneficial for their needs.
Getting started is simple. Contact our office by phone, email, through our website, through our Psychology Today profile, or via Headway to request an appointment or consultation.
We will discuss your needs, answer any initial questions, and help match you with the clinician who may be the best fit for your goals and preferences. From there, we will guide you through scheduling, paperwork, and the next steps so you can begin your therapy journey with confidence.
